When shopping for personal wellness devices, the word 'silicone' appears on nearly every product. But there are significant quality differences, and choosing incorrectly has real health consequences.
Medical-Grade Silicone: The Standard
Medical-grade (platinum-cured) silicone is the same material used in surgical implants and FDA-cleared devices. It is:
- **Non-porous** — cannot harbour bacteria, mold, or viruses
- **Hypoallergenic** — no latex, BPA, or phthalates
- **Thermally stable** — safe from -60°C to 200°C
- **Non-reactive** — does not leach chemicals over time
All Lovense Wellness products use this grade exclusively.
What to Avoid
Lower-cost devices often use jelly rubber, TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), or so-called "silicone blends" — a marketing term with no regulatory definition. These materials are porous, meaning they cannot be fully sterilised, and many contain plasticisers linked to hormone disruption.
The Simple Test
Pinch a white piece of paper against the device and rub. If colour transfers to the paper, the material is likely not genuine medical-grade silicone.
Our Certifications
All five Lovense Wellness devices carry CE and RoHS certifications. CE certification confirms compliance with EU health, safety, and environmental standards. RoHS certifies restriction of hazardous substances. These are not marketing claims — they are independently verified.
